40 mins from Tossa
> GIRONA AIRPORT (GRO)
Small, calm and well-connected. Ryanair flies direct from London, Dublin, Brussels, Amsterdam, and most major European cities. Land, collect your hire car, and you're in Tossa before the afternoon is over.
Zürich and Basel don't fly direct to Girona. From Switzerland, Geneva connects via a stopover, or fly into Barcelona instead.
GETTING HERE
> BARCELONA AIRPORT (BCN)
1h20 mins from Tossa
The larger international airport is ideal if you want to combine your stay with a few nights in the city. The AP-7 motorway runs straight to Tossa. Be mindful of Friday afternoon traffic out of Barcelona though, as well as on public holidays.
I often take the Moventis bus which avoids traffic if I'm only staying in Tossa. More info below!
GETTING AROUND
OUR TOP RECOMMENDATION
🚗 RENT A CAR
A car is essential to truly discover the Costa Brava. The hidden calas, the mountain road to Cadaqués, and discovering the inner land. None of it yields to public transport if you really want to enjoy the region. Book in advance for July and August.
BARCELONA DIRECT
🚌 TAKE THE MOVENTIS BUS
A direct and very comfortable coach is available from Barcelona Airport T2 straight to Tossa de Mar. This is ideal if you just want to arrive in Tossa and not drive around the area.
AVAILABLE ON REQUEST
🚲 BY BIKE
A city bike is available to guests on request to use within Tossa. Perfect for the morning ride along the seafront, the market, or exploring Tossa without worrying about parking. Otherwise, I highly recommend renting a bike at Tossa Cycling if you want to go mountain biking in the area, Tossa is a prime location for cyclists!
OUR TOP RECOMMENDATION
🚢 BY BOAT
There is the tourist glass-bottomed boat that runs seasonally between Tossa and the coastal calas. However, I would recommend taking a kayak, or renting a small boat of your own for a more personal and free experience.
SLOW TRAVEL
The coast rewards those
who stay a little longer.
Most people give the Costa Brava a week in August The ones who come back year after year know that the coast has a completely different character in the quieter months. The golden October light, near-empty calas in September, the almond blossom in March. For those who work remotely, the shoulder season offers something rare: Mediterranean quality of life without the crowds.
THE SPIRIT PILLAR OF OUR SHORE
The Wild Coast gets its untamed name from the Tramuntana
Sweeping down from the rugged Pyrenees, the Tramuntana wind sculpts our Mediterranean landscape. While it can roar with majestic force through the winter months, it leaves behind a gift of crisp, azure skies and an unparalleled clarity of light that has inspired artists for centuries. It is the breath of life that makes our coastal views so vivid and sharp.
